Dear Friends,

San Leandro children deserve great schools and I am working hard to ensure they get them.

On the School Board since 2014, I have been instrumental in reopening our school libraries, securing grant funding for at-risk students, and bringing cutting-edge technology into our classrooms while keeping our schools safe.

I worked hard to to facilitate partnerships with the city, state, school district and community stakeholders to provide innovative programs and services to students. Partnerships such as the Summer Trades Program where high school students receive hand-on exposure to building and construction trade careers, and the OSI Soft/City of San Leandro partnership that upgraded fiber optics and provided technological equipment and software in our classrooms. Every student in our district is provided with an iPad or Chromebook device!

While progress has been made, there is much more to do. Retaining and attracting quality teachers, reducing class size and enhancing outcome while providing opportunities for our students are my top priorities. I want to provide world-class instruction in a safe environment using 21st century teaching strategies to help develop well-rounded students who reach their full potential.

If you believe, like I do, that San Leandro students deserve great schools please use the links to join my re-election campaign.

Sincerely,

Leo Sheridan, Trustee

San Leandro School Board

So honored that San Leandro Unified was selected as AP District of the year in recognition of our AP program and the increasing diversity in students enrolled in AP courses. To be selected as 1 of 3 school districts out of over 14,000 districts is quite an accomplishment. Congratulations to all of our stakeholders, and to our students!

Above and Beyond

Last week a San Leandro resident shared his views on obsolete libraries, overpaid teachers and the need for technology. He invited the readers to check the facts.

I did, and here was my response:

SLUSD Awarded $1.14M Grant

Congratulations SLUSD. In May I brought to the attention of the District the California Learning Communities for School Success Program grant (LCSSP).

The grant provides funds to local education agencies to support programs aimed at improving student outcomes by reducing truancy and supporting students who are at risk of dropping out of school or are victims of crime.

The district leadership did an amazing job in preparing the grant proposal and securing the grant. The district will be awarded approx. $1.14 million dollars over the next 4 years.
